Delta Academy

Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy provides character development, mentoring and personal skills development activities for girls 11-14 years of age. The program emphasizes scholarship in areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, while also engaging in topics such as leadership, intra-psychic development, and interpersonal skills.

Delta Gems

Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) Institute mentors at-risk African-American girls,14-18 years of age, and provides the framework for them to actualize their goals through the performance of activities that develop a “can-do” attitude. The goal of this program is to provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success and to become involved in community service opportunities.

EMBODI

EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., with the support and action of other major organizations, on the plight of African-American males. Both informal and empirical data suggest that the vast majority of African-American males continue to be in crisis and are not reaching its fullest potential educationally, socially and emotionally. EMBODI is designed to address these issues through dialogue and recommendations for change and action. EMBODI addresses issues related to STEM education, culture, self-efficacy, leadership, physical and mental health, healthy lifestyle choices, character, ethics, relationships, college readiness, fiscal management, civic engagement, and service learning.

Jabberwock

The Jabberwock Program, created in 1925 by Marion G. Conover, a member of the Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in Boston MA, has always had two objectives. First, as in the Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland tale, it was originally planned to be entertaining and enjoyable and, secondly, it began as a means of increasing scholarship funds. Jabberwock has since become an international program of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to raise funds for academic scholarships.

May Week

May Week was established to give special attention to issues that affect our community such as family and education. The educational component has used various forums including showcasing talented youth, awarding youth for their excellence, and providing school-aged students with opportunities that align with our Five-Point Programmatic Thrust. May Week is an excellent opportunity for Delta Sigma Theta to reinforce our commitment to our youth and their families.

DELTA Reader

DELTA Reader consists of community volunteers who encourage elementary school-aged students in Middletown, Odessa, Townsend and Delaware City schools to increase their daily reading, AR goals, and overall reading comprehension. Students are also encouraged to read on their own, to parents and siblings, thereby engaging the entire family.
