  • Investing in Our Community: Relieving Lunch Debt,

Each year, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. pause to celebrate Founders Day, reflecting on the legacy of the 22 visionary women whose commitment to service and sisterhood laid the foundation of the Sorority on January 13, 1913. On this meaningful day, the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. chose to commemorate Founders Day not only in reflection, but in action. On January 13, 2026 as part of the chapter’s Adopt-A-Family holiday celebrations, the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter signed a check in the amount of $2,818 to the Appoquinimink School District to cover past-due school lunch balances for students attending Brick Mill Elementary School, Silver Lake Elementary School, Bunker Hill Elementary School and Redding Middle School. For many families, school lunch debt can quietly accumulate during periods of financial hardship. While the balances may seem small individually, the impact can create significant stress for families and, more importantly, affect students’ sense of security during the school day. The Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter chose to provide this gift as an extension of its commitment to service, compassion and community care. Through the Adopt-A-Family initiative, the chapter traditionally focuses on meeting immediate holiday needs such as gifts, food and household essentials. This year, the chapter also sought to address a need that extends beyond the holiday season but one that directly supports students’ well-being and academic success. By eliminating these past-due balances, the chapter aimed to remove a barrier that can follow families long after the holidays have passed.  The Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter is grateful to the Appoquinimink School District for its partnership and for the opportunity to support students across multiple schools. Brick Mill Elementary School, Silver Lake Elementary School, Bunker Hill Elementary School and Redding Middle School each serve diverse families and the chapter is honored to contribute to easing the burden for those in need. This initiative was made possible through the collective efforts of chapter members and supporters who continue to honor the Sorority’s legacy through service. It is a reminder that meaningful impact does not always come with fanfare. Sometimes it comes through quiet acts that restore dignity, relieve stress and ensure that a child can participate in the school day without worry.

  • Middletown (DE) Alumnae Kicks Off the Sorority Year with a Peachy Community Connection

The Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. proudly launched the new Sorority year with a strong showing at the annual Middletown Old Tyme Peach Festival on Saturday, August 16, 2025. This long-standing community event provided the perfect backdrop for our chapter to engage with families, share our programs, and connect with new supporters. With vibrant energy and sisterly spirit, 22 Sorors dedicated their time throughout the day to ensure our booth was both impactful and welcoming. From the very start, the community responded enthusiastically. Visitors stopped by to learn more about our mission, our programs, and the ways in which Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. serves. We were thrilled to welcome new community members who subscribed to receive future chapter communications. The excitement was palpable, and the highlight of the afternoon came when the winner of our school supply gift basket raffle was announced. Their joy reflected the warm sense of community that makes the Peach Festival so special while also underscoring the importance of supporting students as they prepare for the academic year. One of the biggest attractions at our booth was the Kids Craft table, which invited children—and in many cases, their parents—to take part in a fun, hands-on activity. The craft was more than just entertainment; it was thoughtfully designed to align with the Sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrusts, reinforcing our commitment to educational development, physical and mental health, and family engagement. The laughter and creativity shared at that table turned our booth into a hub of activity and connection, and it was heartwarming to watch families linger, participate, and engage in conversations with our Sorors. The Middletown Peach Festival was more than just a community gathering; it marked the beginning of a Sorority year filled with promise, purpose, and opportunity. The chapter’s active presence at the event reflected its ongoing commitment to uplifting the community through service, sisterhood, and social action. By offering hands-on activities for children, resources for families, and opportunities for connection, the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter created a space that was both fun and meaningful. As the Sorority year unfolds, the energy and engagement demonstrated at the Peach Festival will serve as a foundation for future efforts. This “Peachy Community Connection” showcased how intentional service and outreach can inspire, educate, and strengthen bonds within the community. The chapter looks forward to building on this momentum in the months ahead, continuing to serve with impact and illuminate the mission of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

  • MAC Connections: Sorors have an Evening to Remember

On Friday, April 11, 2025, more than 40 Sorors of the Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. gathered for an evening dedicated to fellowship, reflection, and reconnection duly named MAC Connections: Soror to Soror . Facilitated by the Reclamation and Retention Committee, serving as their Spring Retention activity. The event offered a space for Sorors to slow down and engage with one another in a warm, welcoming environment. From the moment Sorors entered the room, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement. Hugs, laughter, and genuine conversation filled the space as everyone settled in. A delicious dinner and an array of desserts lovingly prepared by Soror Sybil, added a welcoming and personal touch. The evening’s centerpiece was the “ MAC Speed Dating”  activity, designed to spark intentional dialogue across generations. Sorors were paired in small groups that included newer members, Delta Dears, and MAC Charter members. Through a series of guided prompts and specially designed questions, titled “The Nine Pearls,” Sorors reflected on their Delta journeys, shared meaningful experiences, and spoke about the impact of sisterhood in their lives. As the conversations unfolded, Sorors were invited to share some of their responses with the full group, which resulted in moments of laughter, tears, and heartfelt affirmations. These stories brought everyone closer and reminded all in attendance of the beauty found in vulnerability and shared experience. It was particularly moving to witness the bonds formed between newer Sorors and the chapter’s Delta Dears and Charter Members. Their presence brought historical depth to the evening and a heartfelt reminder of the foundation on which the chapter stands and the responsibility to continue nurturing that legacy. However, the true prize was the sense of connection that deepened as the night went on. The event concluded with the Sister Swap , where Sorors exchanged Delta paraphernalia with one another. Each item, whether gifted or received, carried personal meaning, and the exchange added a sentimental close to an already meaningful gathering. The Middletown (DE) Alumnae Chapter extends sincere thanks to every Soror who attended and helped create such a memorable evening. MAC Connections: Soror to Soror  was more than a moment. It was a reflection of what makes this chapter’s sisterhood so special. The event was met with overwhelmingly positive remarks from attendees, and the chapter looks forward to hosting it again at the upcoming Chapter Retreat.
